What it is
Department of Environmental Protection industrial registration is a filing required for certain commercial operations that affect air and emissions. The most common case in restaurant work is the Industrial Registration Application for solid-fuel-burning cooking equipment—coal-fired, wood-fired, or charcoal—usually paired with the CATS General Registration Application. The filing tells DEP what equipment is on site and how it is operated.
Why it matters to address
Solid-fuel cooking equipment or other regulated industrial gear running without DEP registration is treated as operating without authorization. That can draw DEP notices, fines, and orders to stop the equipment, and it can hold up related Department of Buildings and Fire Department sign-offs—delaying opening, renovation, and the certificate of operation.
